Teens wildlife photography

Join us on this unique urban photographic safari exclusive to Teens. Without abandoning the comforts of access to a tube or lose a wifi signal this four-day workshop challenges students to:

  • freeze flying birds mid-flight
  • compose a majestic deer in landscape
  • master difficult exposures for penguins with their contrasting black and whites
  • examine nature on a macro scale (“up-close and personal”)
  • and get that perfect expression of a cow with its calf.

Locations for the week will be wildlife and nature-based in and around London, and the course will concentrate on a variety of skills, in which you can borrow our zoom and macro lenses for close-up zoomed in shots and macro photography. Locations we visit may include London Zoo, a city farm (goats, lambs, chickens, and more), London Wetlands Centre (birds, otters if we’re lucky), Kew Gardens or one of the London parks for close ups of flowers and bees, a favourite among many teens.

Have you ever seen how hairy a bumble bee is?! Or the insect “landing strip” or “runway” on a flower? Discover nature and practise your photography at the same time!
A teen quote during the course: “This course is so much more than just photography!”

Who this course is for
The urban photographer Teen will have some basic knowledge of their camera and settings but would like a review before moving on to more advanced photographic techniques. We also look at the skill of composition, observing what our eyes are drawn to in nature and how we can use that to create a strong visual image.

Course requirement: Camera – ideally a DSLR or compact with Tv/S and Av/A and M programme modes. We have cameras you can borrow so please contact us if you would like to borrow a camera for this course. Macro lenses, zoom lenses, external flash and tripods can be provided, but bring your own if you have. Do call to talk to us if you want more information or to book.

This course can be used as a Skill for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. It also leads on to our Teens Intermediate and Saturday Club courses where skills are refreshed and developed.

Class size: 6
