Future Creatives
Being our most popular age group for over twelve years we have developed a brand of visual arts teaching which keeps young teen’s energetically engaged through practice and communication. We find this age group enjoys the many art-ed experiences we present as an offset to an otherwise strong national STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) curriculum – we enable the Arts of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics). Through a self-expression and creative practice-driven syllabus your teen will improve observation skills, self-confidence and focus. Whether you are a homeschooling parent looking for adding variety to your child’s lesson plans or looking for alternatives to traditional learning structures which challenge attention span, we are here to help. We are all DBS certified, members of the International Visual Literacy Association, and have years of practical knowledge in the visual arts and teaching. Our all-inclusive non-discriminatory teaching methods are completely focused on the individual’s learning path, versed also in the wide range of SEND neurodivergent qualities and their intricacies. Our Parent and Student Feedback page is testament to the commitment – and enjoyment! – we make to your child’s learning and growing.

PHOTOGRAPHY + CAMERA BASICS (beginners)
The fun begins at learning how to make images. Automation in mobile phones makes everyone a budding photographer – that’s the elephant in the room. Our students want more than a point and shoot experience and we deliver that. How do I photograph my dog in the dark? Why are my pictures not sharp? Do you think this is a good picture? In the Photography + Camera Skills courses we move away from automation and into thinking individually about making a photograph. Your child discovers the science behind the camera and light in a series of experiments through which the fundamentals of photography are revealed. And the fun begins!

NEXT LEVELS in Photography and Creative Skills
BEGINNERS PLUS – INTERMEDIATE – ADVANCED
VISUAL LITERACY FOR FUTURE CREATIVES
From fake news to infographics, staged Instagram selfies to viral images of lawyers with cat avatars our children are growing up in an environment where the image continues to creep into our information forming networks. Understanding how reading images can affect how we feel or interpret society around us is a necessary part of our information gathering process. Moving from a text literate to a visual literate society is the next iteration in expanding our growth as communicators. Our brand of visual literacy courses for future creatives explores the act of seeing. Unlike the photography courses this is about deep seeing into photographs already made. Through games, puzzles and reading picture practice the course guides 12 – 15 year olds to observe, feedback and expand on visuals placed in front of them in order to improve on observational and image reading skills and bring to their attention the influencing factors pictures can make.
We also build the practical side of the course together based on each person’s interest and drawing from the subject course headings below.
Each week’s specific subject will include elements of these subjects below – join and decide together what we cover during your course (as far as possible)!
Previously we have run these as separate courses but find most of our students are interested in and benefit from exploring a range of different skills within a week’s course or on our different Saturday in-town sessions. So we gauge interests each week and customise the day’s places to visit according to our young creative students’ interests:
SHOOTING STORIES – how to be a journalist/reportage photographer around the streets of London
WILDLIFE and MACRO (close up) PHOTOGRAPHY –incl. visit to London Zoo. NB. Please be aware of extra cost for Zoo entrance. No extra cost to borrow our lenses – part of the course!
MOVEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY – build expertise in camera skills for capturing movement: we will ride varying forms of transport to give range to skills, whilst on stable ground we access movement in some unusual and inspiring forms
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY LONDON – using London as our canvas we explore how each student views and photographs a subject with a very individual approach
WILDLIFE and MACRO (CLOSE-UP) PHOTOGRAPHY – borrow our lenses (no extra cost, all part of the course) and discover the amazing world of small details!
FLASH & CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY – way more fun and creative than you ever imagined!
CREATIVE LIGHTS PHOTOGRAPHY – enter a new realm you never realised your camera could do!
ADRENALINE LONDON! Action photography, including Street Photography, Movement, and becoming accomplished at reacting quickly with your camera!
TIME LAPSE and STOP-MOTION to capture the changing cityscapes, plants growing and more.
PHOTO EDITING – using Photoshop & Lightroom, learn how to edit, build a portfolio, build a book. Also great as a skills refresher if you know a bit but want to learn more!
These are just some of the many topics we cover. The more you photograph the better you become!

SUMMER HOLIDAYS
Monday 24 August – Thursday 27 August 2026 (24, 25, 26, 27 August) | LONDON
Mon 24 Aug – Thurs 27 Aug, 10am-1pm, DAY COURSE over 4 days, total 20 hours. Max. 6 students per group. £555 inc. VAT, free camera loan, lens loan, tripods, software, if applicable for the session/week.
This course consists of several parts and varies with each group. Covering a review of all camera foundations skills (so beginners also welcome) we take inspiration from each person’s interests to build skills in creative photography. We explore a variety of photography genres and give you experience to build your own creative ‘voice’, refining your skill and vision.
For example: WILDLIFE, MACRO, FOOD, STREET PHOTOGRAPHY, PHOTOSHOP, TIMELAPSE and more. Come with ideas! We are always open to suggestions.

North of Lands End at Cape Cornwall, Sennen, macro photography.
Part 1. Camera Beginners/Beginners Plus/Intermediate Skills encourages Teens to challenge their use of their cameras more extensively with the skills learned in our Beginners course or elsewhere. We look (depending on each group) at
- metering
- track focusing and other focus functions
- flash – also covered as many decidedly ‘dislike’ flash, until they know how to use it! It’s actually simpler than you think! But you need to know how, so we show you
- exposure modes other than manual and why they can sometimes be useful
- composition through the lens and using ‘blind’ instinct, using all our senses, including the 6th!
- genre-specific settings – know which to use when and why. Being prepared is key!
- lens choice – borrow ours to test out differences and why your choice matters (but you can also be nimble and versatile)
Through experimenting and putting skills into practice together you will build projects over the week with a view to turning them possibly into print after the course, or keep them digital but you will be more prepared for next term, or next time with us.
VERY HELPFUL for those doing GCSE or other qualifications, to get ahead on camera/photography/software skills and portfolio preparation!
Additional subjects may include using analogue (film) cameras (you might have one lying around at home), Toy Cameras (such as Holga, Lomos, polaroid, etc.). Bring your own or borrow ours.
Or bring some images you need help with – in a kind of photo clinic.
And… come with ideas, or tell us before – even better – and we will look to include these in the week!
Part 2. Create your own book, cards, poster, invitation (for example using collage) and more. Or build a portfolio. The creative design part of this course is held at our studio using your or our computers. You will be given access to Adobe Creative Cloud and be introduced to Adobe Lightroom Classic (LRC), Photoshop, and possibly InDesign skills for the layout of images, viewing the creative sense of space, perhaps choice of font if using that, and why and how images work together, and how text can change the message of a photograph.
See how creative you can be!
Locations visited in Cornwall for this course may include visits to some of these, and to be discussed and arranged together as a group:
- the Lost Gardens of Heligan,
- Tintagel Castle and beach,
- Lappa Valley steam train,
- Screech Owl Sanctuary,
- the Eden Project,
- St Michael’s Mount,
- Glendurgan Garden and its maze,
- beautiful Cornish harbours and towns,
- and more.
Locations vary each week, and we will do our best to coordinate with participants and discuss to liaise based on where you live/are staying. Suggestions welcome! For wildlife/ florals borrow our macro close-up lenses and others if possible within the course structure.
Progress from this course to our subject specific Intermediate courses either online or during another holiday/at another location with us (e.g. London/Cornwall): Street, Portraiture, Wildlife & Macro, Photoshop Advanced, Filming, Exhibition and more.
Course requirement: None! We provide FREE loan DSLR cameras, so please contact us if you would like to borrow a camera for this course and we will reserve one for you. Or bring your own and learn what all the settings and buttons do, and !. (Ideally your camera would have M, Tv/S, Av/A and P programme modes, but ask us if you need guidance.)
Who is this course for?
Anyone interested! Also those looking to or currently taking GCSE (or early A’Level?) in Art/Design/Photography or with a view to any arts/creative programme or career path.
This course can be used as a Skill for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
Perfect for anyone wanting to progress and experiment with their photography, prepare exam work, pitch to schools/colleges, produce a product you can hold in your hands rather than only view online, refine your skills and, of course, just have fun!
You will have covered a significant amount of material, all with lots of practical fun in our amazing Cornish surroundings, and be well on your way to being a skilful and creative photographer! A variety of photography genres you will be versed in, plus editing software techniques, will have you ready to dive straight in and be ahead in any GCSE or other creative programme.
