The Mango Lab workshop for The Wandsworth Older People’s Forum

The Mango Lab presented the second of three workshops to kickstart the image drive for the residents of Wandsworth to produce imagery that will be selected for a calendar for sale with proceeds going to the Wandsworth Older People’s Forum. This is a special project we are proud to be a part of because the proceeds will provide essential support projects for older people in Roehampton.

We had a fabulous afternoon being lead on a tour of the Alton Estates and learning about the history and development of one of the largest council estates in the UK. Our brief for the afternoon had participants focus their cameras on the topics of line, shape and shadow; lost and found; and visual contrast. Alton Estates is a very difficult area to shoot because of the dense layers of visual aspects that either distract or litter the potential of the scene. So the challenge was to work around that. We visited out of bounds areas and our intrepid group even took the guide into areas yet undiscovered. While our workshop turned out to be more about seeing then about creating “calendar style” imagery, we were pleased that the participants felt they learned how to dissect and frame images from an environment of this magnitude. This will work well in the future when it comes to setting out to produce imagery for the calendar. Well done to the participants!

Our last workshop in the series is scheduled for Saturday 2nd July 11:00 – 1:00 pm starting at Roehampton University.
